Sandra Cisneros, born December 20, 1954, is an American writer and a key figure in Chicano literature. The House on Mango Street (1984), Cisneros's first novel, and the short story collection Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories (1991) are the works Cisneros is best known for. Poetry follows in My Wicked Wicked Ways (1987), Loose Woman (1994) and Woman Without Shame (2022). Mexican American women, girls and adolescence recur among the recorded subjects. Cisneros holds a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and was named in 2017 to one of 25 Ford Foundation Art of Change fellowships.
