Physician and author Abraham Verghese was born on May 30, 1955. At Stanford Medical School, Verghese holds the Linda R. Meier and Joan F. Lane Provostial Professorship of Medicine and directs the internal medicine clerkship. The best-selling books are two memoirs and two novels; the catalogue includes My Own Country: A Doctor's Story (1994), The Tennis Partner (1998), Cutting for Stone (2009) and The Covenant of Water (2023).
