Andrew Holleran is the pen name of Eric Garber, born in 1944 on the island of Aruba. Holleran writes novels, essays and short stories, and has spent most of adult life in New York City, Washington, D.C., and a small Florida town. Dancer from the Dance (1978) succeeded both critically and commercially, placing Holleran among the leading names in gay writing after Stonewall, and Holleran is the last living member of the writers' group the Violet Quill.
