Arthur Ransome (1884-1967) was an English author, journalist and intelligence agent. Swallows and Amazons is the work he is known for, a children's series about school-holiday adventures set mostly in the Lake District and the Norfolk Broads, and it remains in print; Windermere and Coniston Water, the two lakes Ransome reshaped into one fictional North Country lake, carry a tourist trade because of it. He also wrote on literary London and on Russia before, during and after the 1917 revolutions. The catalogue holds 45 titles, opening with The Souls of the Streets (1904).
