Arturo Pérez-Reverte is a Spanish novelist and journalist who spent 21 years as a war correspondent for RTVE, from 1973 to 1994. A first novel, El húsar, set in the Napoleonic Wars, appeared in 1986. Captain Alatriste, a swordsman, anchors the adventure series that carried the name beyond Spain, running from Captain Alatriste in 1996 through Purity of Blood, The Sun Over Breda and The King's Gold.
