Ben Kane is an Irish historical novelist, born in Kenya in 1970 and trained in veterinary medicine at University College Dublin before he turned to fiction. Rome supplies most of his material: the Forgotten Legion Chronicles, Spartacus, Hannibal, Eagles of Rome and Clash of Empires work through soldiers, slaves and imperial war, while Richard the Lionheart moves to a later period.
