Bernardine Evaristo is an English author, born 28 May 1959, who teaches as Professor of Creative Writing at Brunel University of London. For 2025/6, Evaristo also holds the post of Visiting Professor of Creative Media at the University of Oxford. Girl, Woman, Other (2019) shared the 2019 Booker Prize with The Testaments by Margaret Atwood, and Evaristo became the first black woman to win the Booker. The novel also took two British Book Awards. Earlier catalogued titles include Lara (1997), The Emperor's Babe (2002), Blonde Roots (2008) and Mr Loverman (2013).
