Betty MacDonald, born Anne Elizabeth Campbell Bard on March 26, 1907, was an American author of humorous autobiographical books who died on February 7, 1958. The Egg and I (1945) is MacDonald's best known book, and MacDonald also wrote the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle children's series. MacDonald is associated with the Pacific Northwest and Washington. Other titles include The Plague and I (1948), Onions in the Stew (1955) and Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle's Farm (1954).
