Cassandra King, born in Alabama in 1944, writes novels about women, friendship, marriage and clergy households. The Sunday Wife (2002) draws on her own years married to a pastor, and The Same Sweet Girls (2005), Queen of Broken Hearts (2007) and Moonrise (2013) followed. King taught at Jefferson State and Gadsden State community colleges and at the University of Montevallo, where she took an MFA in 1988. She married the writer Pat Conroy in 1998, and her 2019 memoir Tell Me a Story: My Life with Pat Conroy, published as Cassandra King Conroy, covers that marriage.
