Scott's books The Killing of Tupac Shakur (1997) and The Murder of Biggie Smalls (2000) examine the drive-by shootings of the two rappers, which happened six months apart, and both sold as bestsellers in the United States and the United Kingdom. Scott was the first to report Shakur's death.
