China Miéville, born 6 September 1972, is a British writer of speculative fiction and a literary critic who calls the work weird fiction and is linked with the loose New Weird movement. Miéville's awards include the Hugo, Locus, BSFA, British Fantasy and World Fantasy Awards, plus three Arthur C. Clarke Awards, a record for that prize. Locus placed Perdido Street Station sixth among the 20th century's best fantasy novels. Miéville served as writer-in-residence at Roosevelt University in Chicago in 2012–13.
