Colson Whitehead is an American novelist, born November 6, 1969, and one of four writers to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction twice. The Underground Railroad (2016) won the 2016 National Book Award for Fiction and the 2017 Pulitzer, and The Nickel Boys took the Pulitzer again in 2020. Whitehead has written ten novels and two nonfiction books, and received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2002.
