Daniel James Hampton Jr. served from 1986 to 2006, flying 151 combat missions and 726 combat hours in the F-16 Fighting Falcon. Hampton is best known as a Wild Weasel, a hunter of surface-to-air missile sites, with 21 hard kills. Combat service includes the Gulf War, the Kosovo War and the Iraq War, plus air patrols on 11 September 2001. Later books include Lords of the Sky (2014), Operation Vengeance (2020) and Vanishing Act (2024).
