Nic Costa, a young detective and art lover, heads a series about police officers in Rome; Pieter Vos heads a second, and further series take in Venice and the Faroe Islands. Hewson's debut, Shanghai Thunder, appeared in 1986, and a second novel set in Spain during Holy Week won the W H Smith Fresh Talent prize for 1996.
