Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915) was an American writer, publisher, artist and philosopher, and the founder of the Roycroft community of artisans in East Aurora, New York. Through Roycroft, Hubbard became a leading figure of the Arts and Crafts movement. Hubbard grew up in Hudson, Illinois, and first sold soap for the Larkin company. His best known publications are A Message To Garcia (1899) and Little Journeys to the Homes of the Great, which ran to 14 volumes. Hubbard and his second wife, Alice Moore Hubbard, died in the sinking of the RMS Lusitania.
