Fred Rogers, full name Fred McFeely Rogers and known professionally as Mister Rogers, was an American television personality, Presbyterian minister and author who lived from March 20, 1928, to February 27, 2003. Rogers created, ran and hosted the preschool series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood from 1968 to 2001. Born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Rogers took a music degree from Rollins College in 1951, started in television at NBC in New York and moved back to Pittsburgh in 1953 to make children's programmes for WQED. Books include You Are Special (1981), Mister Rogers Talks with Parents (1985) and Going To The Doctor (1986), with subjects such as parenting, self-esteem and preparing children for medical care.
