Gregory Mcdonald (15 February 1937 - 7 September 2008) was an American novelist whose mystery adventures follow the investigative reporter Irwin Maurice "Fletch" Fletcher. The Mystery Writers of America gave Fletch its Edgar for Best First Novel in 1975 and Confess, Fletch the Edgar for Best Paperback Original in 1977, the single instance of a novel and its sequel taking the award in consecutive years. A second recurring figure, Francis Xavier Flynn, carries the Flynn books, with police and Boston among the subject tags.
