Dame Hilary Mantel (born Hilary Mary Thompson, 6 July 1952 to 22 September 2022) was a British writer of historical fiction, memoir and short stories. Every Day Is Mother's Day (1985) was the first published novel. Mantel won the Booker Prize twice, for Wolf Hall (2009), a fictional account of Thomas Cromwell's rise at the court of Henry VIII, and for its 2012 sequel Bring Up the Bodies.
