Ian Woodward Falconer (1959-2023) was an American author and illustrator who also designed stage sets and costumes. A Caldecott Honor came in 2001 for the Olivia children's books, which Falconer both wrote and illustrated. Falconer drew magazine covers for The New Yorker and worked with the pop artist David Hockney on theatrical costume designs.
