Isabel Wilkerson is an American journalist, born in 1961, and the first African-American woman to take a Pulitzer Prize for journalism. Two books carry Wilkerson's name. Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents came out in 2020; The Warmth of Other Suns, subtitled The Epic Story of America's Great Migration, came out ten years earlier, and both run to around 559 pages. The career behind them took in the Howard University student newspaper, internships at the Los Angeles Times and the Washington Post, the Chicago bureau chief post at The New York Times, and teaching at Emory, Princeton, Northwestern and Boston University. African American migration, race relations, social stratification and caste are the subjects.
