Jack Vance, born John Holbrook Vance (1916–2013), was an American author of fantasy, science fiction and mysteries, some of the mysteries appearing under pen names including Ellery Queen. Honours include the 1984 World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement, Grand Master status from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America in 1997, and induction into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2001.
