James Hilton (1900-1954) was a British-American novelist and screenwriter. Lost Horizon (1933) and Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1934) are his best remembered novels, with Random Harvest beside them; the schoolmaster books draw on English public schools, and Murder At School (1931) on detective fiction. Hilton also co-wrote the screenplays for Camille (1936) and Mrs. Miniver (1942), the second of which won him an Academy Award. Twenty titles are catalogued, starting at Catherine Herself (1920).
