James Jones, born in 1921 and died in 1977, was an American novelist who wrote about the Second World War and what it left behind. From Here to Eternity, his debut, won the National Book Award in 1952, was filmed the following year, that film took the Academy Award for Best Picture, and was later made into a television series. The Thin Red Line (1962) and Whistle (1978) complete his World War II Trilogy.
