John Berger (5 November 1926 to 2 January 2017) was an English novelist, art critic, painter and poet who lived in France for more than 50 years. G., a novel, won the Booker Prize in 1972. Ways of Seeing, an essay on art criticism, accompanied the BBC series of that name.
