Joy Harjo is an American poet, musician, playwright and author, born in 1951 and a citizen of the Muscogee Nation. From 2019 to 2022 Harjo held the office of poet laureate of the United States, the 23rd person in the role, the first Native American appointed to it, and one of only two laureates to serve three terms.
