Kate Charles, born Carol Fosher in Cincinnati in 1950, is an American-born crime writer who holds British citizenship and lives in Ludlow, Shropshire. Charles studied library science at Illinois State University, graduating in 1972, and took an MA at Indiana University Bloomington. Charles has chaired both the Crime Writers' Association and the Barbara Pym Society.
