James Francis Dwyer (22 April 1874 - 11 November 1952) was an Australian writer born in Camden Park, New South Wales. Dwyer worked as a postal assistant until an 1899 conviction over fraudulent postal orders brought a seven-year prison sentence. Writing began in prison, and The Bulletin published the work with help from another inmate and a guard. After release, Dwyer moved to London and then New York and wrote short stories and novels. The 13 catalogued books run from The Bust of Lincoln (1912) to Leg-Irons on Wings (1949), the autobiography written in France.
