A Brief History of Seven Killings (2014) won the 2015 Man Booker Prize; John Crow's Devil (2005) and The Book of Night Women (2009) precede it, and Black Leopard, Red Wolf (2019), Moon Witch, Spider King (2022) and The Disappearers (2026) follow, with White Wing, Dark Star scheduled for 2027. Jamaica, slavery, religion, clergy and assassins supply the subjects. James also wrote the limited television series Get Millie Black, lives in Minneapolis, teaches literature at Macalester College and lectures on St. Francis College's low-residency MFA.
