Michael Gruber writes suspense novels. Jimmy Paz, a Cuban American police detective, carries one series, and shamanism, anthropology and crimes against women run through those books. Thirteen titles are catalogued between 2003 and 2019: Tropic of Night (2003), Valley of Bones (2005), Night of the Jaguar (2006), The Book of Air and Shadows (2007), The Forgery of Venus (2008), The Good Son (2009), The Return (2012) and Amnesia Dreams (2019), with The Witch's Boy and The Legend of the Brog, both 2005, beside them. Before publishing under his own name, Gruber ghostwrote the Robert K. Tanenbaum series of Butch Karp novels, from No Lesser Plea through to Resolved. Gruber was born in Brooklyn in 1940, holds a doctorate in biology, worked as a cook, marine biologist, speechwriter and government official before turning novelist, and lives in Seattle.
