Niel Hancock (January 8, 1941 to May 7, 2011) was an American fantasy writer and the creator of the fictional universe Atlanton Earth, known above all for the Circle of Light series. Hancock's fantasy novels fall into three sets of four books. Dragon Winter (1978) shares the Atlanton Earth universe but stands outside the main storyline. The novels were aimed at adult readers of high fantasy, yet use plain plots and talking-animal devices more common in children's books. Tor Books reissued them after several years out of print. Catalogued series are Atlanton Earth, Wilderness of Four and Windameir Circle, and Greyfax Grimwald (1977) is the first listed title.
