Noel Barber (9 September 1909 - 10 July 1988) was a British journalist and novelist, and the son of John Barber and his Danish wife Musse; his brothers were Kenneth, a banker, and Anthony Barber, Baron Barber. As lead foreign correspondent for the Daily Mail, Barber reported from Morocco, where he was stabbed five times, and survived a Soviet sentry's gunshot to the head in Hungary in October 1956 during the revolution there. A car crash ended the reporting career, and the novels that followed, set in far-flung countries, draw on it; Tanamera made Barber a bestselling novelist in his seventies. The catalogue lists 29 titles from Cities (1951) to 1990, including The Flight of the Dalai Lama (1960) and Conversations with Painters (1964), with history and the Second World War among the subjects.
