Orhan Pamuk, born in Istanbul in 1952, is a Turkish novelist, screenwriter and academic, and the first Turkish winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, awarded in 2006. Silent House (1983) opens the catalogue, followed by The White Castle (1985), The Black Book (1990), The New Life (1994), My Name Is Red (1998), Snow (2002) and The Museum of Innocence (2008), with the memoir Istanbul: Memories and the City (2003) alongside. Istanbul, family life, East and West, and Turkish social custom are the recurring subjects. Pamuk has sold over 13 million books in 63 languages, teaches writing and comparative literature at Columbia University, and was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 2018.
