Osamu Dazai was the pen name of Shūji Tsushima (19 June 1909 – 13 June 1948), a Japanese writer whose works The Setting Sun and No Longer Human are regarded as modern classics. No Longer Human was Dazai's final book and is the most widely read Dazai work outside Japan. Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, Murasaki Shikibu and Fyodor Dostoevsky shaped Dazai's writing.
