Peter Harmer Lovesey (10 September 1936 to 10 April 2025) was a British author of historical and contemporary detective novels and short stories, and also published as Peter Lear. The best-known Lovesey series characters are Sergeant Cribb, a Victorian police detective in London, and Peter Diamond, a present-day police detective in Bath. Lovesey was also a leading track and field statistician.
