Pierre Lemaitre is a French novelist and screenwriter best known outside France for crime novels featuring Commandant Camille Verhœven. Alex, the first of his books translated into English, shared the CWA International Dagger for 2013; Camille and The Great Swindle took the same prize in 2015 and 2016. The Great Swindle, an epic of the First World War published in French as Au revoir là-haut, won the Prix Goncourt in November 2013.
