R.F. Kuang is the pen name of Rebecca F. Kuang (born May 29, 1996), an American novelist and short-story writer of fantasy. Babel, or The Necessity of Violence (2022) reached number one on The New York Times Best Seller list and won the 2022 Nebula Award for Best Novel. Kuang's fantasy also includes The Poppy War trilogy, and The Poppy War (2018) is the first catalogued book. Yellowface (2023) and Katabasis (2025) follow, with Taipei Story (2026) the newest of 10. Kuang is the inaugural Millard Distinguished Writer in Residence at the College of the Holy Cross.
