Richard Matheson (1926-2013) was an American author and screenwriter working mainly in horror, fantasy and science fiction. I Am Legend, the 1954 novel, is the best known work and has been filmed three times: as The Last Man on Earth (1964), which Matheson co-wrote and Vincent Price starred in, then as The Omega Man with Charlton Heston, and again under its own title with Will Smith.
