Robert Holdstock (2 August 1948 - 29 November 2009) was an English novelist of mythic fantasy drawing on Celtic, Nordic, Gothic and Pictish sources. Holdstock first appeared in print in 1968, and the science fiction and fantasy explore philosophical, psychological, anthropological, spiritual and woodland themes. Awards include three BSFA awards and the World Fantasy Award for Best Novel of 1985.
