Robert Traver is the pen name of John Donaldson Voelker, a lawyer, author and fly fisherman from Michigan's Upper Peninsula who lived from June 29, 1903, to March 18, 1991. Voelker was born and raised in Ishpeming, studied at the University of Michigan Law School and worked as an attorney and Marquette County prosecutor. Governor G. Mennen Williams appointed Voelker to the Michigan Supreme Court in 1957. Anatomy of a Murder (1958) is the novel Traver is best known for. Other catalogued titles include Small Town D.A., Trout Madness and Trout Magic.
