Samuel Barclay Beckett (13 April 1906 - 22 December 1989) was an Irish playwright, novelist and poet who worked in both English and French. Bleak, impersonal and tragicomic episodes, black comedy and literary nonsense mark the Beckett writing. Waiting for Godot is the play Beckett is best known for, and Beckett is widely regarded as one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century and as a transformer of modern theatre.
