Sharan Newman, born April 15, 1949, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is an American historian and historical novelist. Newman won the 1994 Macavity Award for Best First Mystery. Catherine LeVendeur is her woman detective, and France and nuns appear among the subjects; Death Comes As Epiphany (1993) and The Devil's Door (1994) fall in that period. The Guinevere series and Arthurian romance come earlier, and her 21 books reach Defending the City of God (2014).
