Stanley Evans, born in England in 1931, emigrated to Canada in 1954 and writes full time from Victoria, British Columbia. Before the books came soldiering, surveying and deep-sea fishing, then articles for newspapers and magazines and two plays staged at the Arts Club in Vancouver. From 2005 the output settled into a yearly mystery whose investigator is a Coast Salish man; the catalogue names that figure Silas Seaweed and records Coast Salish rites, ceremonies and mythology among the subjects. Nine books run from Outlaw Gold (1996) to Seaweed Under Fire (2017), under two series headings, Silas Seaweed Mystery and Sergeant Decker Mystery.
