Tove Jansson created the Moomins. Jansson was a Finland-Swedish author, comic strip artist, painter and illustrator who lived from 1914 to 2001, studied art in Helsinki, Stockholm and Paris between 1930 and 1938, and held a first solo exhibition in 1943.
