William Peter Blatty (1928-2017) was an American novelist, screenwriter, director and producer, best known for The Exorcist (1971). Blatty wrote the screenplay for the 1973 film and won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, was nominated for Best Picture as its producer, and took a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Drama in the same role.
