Maus is a graphic novel written and drawn by Art Spiegelman, serialised from 1980 to 1991 and collected in three catalogued volumes. The work sets Spiegelman interviewing his father about surviving the Holocaust as a Polish Jew, and draws Jews as mice, Germans as cats and Poles as pigs. Critics have read it by turns as memoir, biography, history, fiction and autobiography. Maus: A Survivor's Tale appeared in 1986, Maus II in 1991 and MetaMaus in 2011. In 1992 Maus became the first graphic novel to take a Pulitzer Prize.
