Pellucidar is the inner surface of a hollow Earth, invented by Edgar Rice Burroughs for a run of action adventure stories. Seven books are catalogued between 1914 and 1944. At the Earth's Core (1914) sends the mining heir David Innes and his inventor friend Abner Perry 500 miles into the crust in an iron mole; Pellucidar (1915), Tanar of Pellucidar (1928), Back to the Stone Age (1937), Savage Pellucidar (1941) and Land of Terror (1944) follow. Tarzan, another Burroughs creation, visits in Tarzan at the Earth's Core (1929), and Jason Gridley and Frederich Wilhelm Eric von Mendeldorf und von Horst are among the later arrivals from the surface world.
