Shiloh is a children's series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor about a boy and a beagle. In the opening book, Shiloh (1991), Marty Preston finds a young beagle in the hills behind his home and hides it from its owner Judd Travers, a man who drinks, keeps a gun and mistreats his dogs; the secret grows too big to hold and pulls Marty's whole family into Judd's anger. Four books make up the run, through Shiloh Season (1996), Saving Shiloh (1997) and A Shiloh Christmas (2015), with West Virginia family life, prejudice and clergy among the subjects.
