A.J. Quinnell was the pen name of Philip Nicholson (25 June 1940 - 10 July 2005), an English novelist. Man on Fire (1980), the book Quinnell is best known for, has been adapted for film twice and for a television series. Creasy is Quinnell's one named series. Ten catalogued titles run to Message from Hell (1996), taking in terrorists, hostages, ambassadors and espionage, with Italy and the Soviet Union among the settings. Nicholson spent much of his later life in Gozo, Malta, where he died.
