Al Franken, born Alan Stuart Franken on 21 May 1951, is an American comedian, screenwriter, actor and Democratic politician who represented Minnesota in the United States Senate from 2009 until resigning in 2018. Franken wrote for Saturday Night Live from 1975 to 1980 and again from 1985 to 1995, briefly joining the cast, then hosted a radio show and wrote satirical books about the American right.
