Ellen Raskin (March 13, 1928 to August 8, 1984) was an American writer and illustrator of children's books. The Westing Game, a mystery novel, won Raskin the 1979 Newbery Medal, and Figgs & Phantoms (1974), another children's mystery, was named a Newbery Honor Book in 1975. A 2012 School Library Journal survey placed The Westing Game ninth among children's novels of all time.
